Valle del Cocora

The Valley of Cocora lies some 10 kilometres from Salento and is regarded as the "Cradle of the Wax Palm" (Colombia’s national tree and one of the tallest trees in the world). The Wax Palm can lived for up to 120 years and can reach a height of 60 metres.

 

The Valley of Cocora is also the Quindio entrance to the Parque National Los Nevados. About 5 kilometers walk (some 2 1/2 hours walk) from Cocora is the Acaime Nature Reserve which has basic accommodation and lots of wildlife especially humming birds.
