Amongst the less known of Colombia`s exports are flowers. Colombia is one of the top exporters of flowers and Colombian flowers are famous for their variety and quality.

The Zona Cafetera is particularly well known for its heliconias and orchids.

The Plantation House gardens have 4 varieties of heliconias. In addition to the extensive gardens Plantation House has a large Guadua (bamboo) forest and a number of fruit trees not to mention coffee plants. We are in the process of reforesting over a hectare of the land we have with 400 native trees.

Don Eduardos, Plantation Houses own coffee farm, which is 10 minutes walk from Salento has nature walks, a natural forest, two bamboo forests and 3 waterfalls. In addition to having 4 varieties of coffee plants – Caturro, Variety Colombia, Arabico Tipico and Bourbon, Don Eduardos also grows oranges, pineapples, pears, bananas and plantains, strawberrys and blackberrys. Don Eduardos also has 8 varieties of heliconias growing, a large number of wild orchids and a good stock of herbs including coriander, rosemary, mint and lemon grass.

Further afield than Salento it is possible to visit the Jardin Botanica in Calarca or the Guadua research centre.
