Los Nevados National Park was established in March of 1973. It is located in ¨la cordillera central¨ (central coridor of the Andes) and covers 4 deparments of Colombia - Risaralda, Tolima, Caldas and Quindio. The Quindio entrance is the Valley of Cocora. Each of the deparments has its own rules and regulations concerning entrance to the park.

flightsCurrently in Quindio there is no park entrance fee and no requirement to take a guide. However if you are planning to enter the park from the Valley of Cocora then you might consider a guide for part of the journey into the high country. There is a section of the route known as the Valley of the Lost that is notorious with the locals.

The park is some 60,000 hectares and amongst the wildlife to be found in the park are spectacled bears, pumas and deer. The park has various ecosystems including Cloud Forest and Paramo. There are several natural thermal pools it is possible to visit once you are in the park. There are 3 permanently snow-capped peaks in the park

Nevado del Ruiz which is 5311 metres
Nevado Santa Isabel which is 4930 metres
Nevado del Tolima which is 5221 metres

There are a number of farmhouses / refuges in the park that will provide basic accomodation and food for travellers.
