Some 16 kilometers from Salento along the "National Camine" is the aptly named "Eagles Nest" (known locally as "El Rocio"). Tucked into a fold along a ridgeline this comfortable refuge offers spectacular views on all sides and is the perfect location to explore the high country. Accomodation is basic but very comfortable. At 3000 metres of altitude unfortunately there is no electricity and hence no hot water, but there is a fantastic lounge / bar area with a roaring fire every night. Water comes from an artesian well and is perfectly safe to drink. On a clear night it is possible to see the lights of Pereira in the distance from one side of the lounge and the lights of Armenia from the other. "Eagles Nest" offers dormitory and private accomodation. Meals are obviously included in the price, however transport will be an additional cost. Transport can be arranged either through Plantation House or direct with Don Omar & Dona Lorena, owners of "Eagles Nest". Don Omar speaks excellent English and along with Lorena, can organise transport for you either by horse or by 4X4. Journey time from Salento by car is approximately 1 hour. It is possible to walk but the walk is some 16 kilometers UPHILL.
